These paintings encapsulate my generation’s yearning for free speech, free thought and autonomy that once flourished in Hong Kong before its eventual demise and brutal takeover by China in 2019. Incorporating a soft touch in my brushstrokes and muted colours, this collection represents the helplessness as an individual and the hopes of a dream world unpolluted by totalitarian regimes. The closing piece of this collection, ‘Lavender Dreamscape’, is a nostalgic homage to the old Hong Kong, a city that once stood as a unique blend of the East and West, a testament to the harmonious coexistence of diverse cultures.
